Everyone has heard about the NHL lockout going on right now,
a lot of fans are pissed off about the situation and recently they not only
cancelled the first two months but they also cancelled the winter classic. In my opinion they took things out of hand,
when the owners asked for a pay raise, locking them out was taking things too
far. The team owners asked for a 7%
increase in income, but the players would end up losing 70% in order to make it
50/50 revenue split which is a huge split for the players. The league has earned more money and a larger
fan base then before, which if you think about it makes no sense for a pay cut.
All of this has led to the lockout currently going on and who knows how long it
could be before there back playing if they even do play this year.
The
situation defiantly could have been handled well than it was; they had other
options then going to a lock out. They could
have had a mediator there while they tried to talk everything out, that way the
teams could still play and hopefully they could have come to a compromise.
Whether that compromise is meeting in the middle and giving them the pay raise but
at a lower percent or coming to some form of another agreement it would be a better
option than a lockout. Another thing
they could have done instead of going to a lockout is have an arbitrator come
in, both sides could state there story and then the arbitrator would choose
what they do from there. One side would more than likely not be happy with the
choice but that way we still wouldn’t have this lockout going on.
With
this lock out going on no one seems to be benefitting from it at all, they only
people who are, are the players because there not losing 70% of the wages, but
at the same time there losing as well as most other people involved in the
lockout. The NFL over all is not benefitting from this, there losing a lot of
money from it, and no one is working so the players are suffering from this as
well. Since there not playing there not making anything and if they are its
know where near as much as they would be making if they were playing. With no games, money is being lost because there’s
no ticket sales and merchandise sales will be way down. The fans are losing out because they don’t get
to watch the sport and some are even so put off about it there giving up on the
NFL. As a Canadian it sucks to see
hockey on a lockout, it’s too bad things
were handled the way they were.
